Decatur Arts Festival
Downtown Decatur, May 26-May 28
Start off Memorial Day weekend with a celebration of art. The Decatur Arts Festival is a free event that brings together performing and visual artists of all types so the people of Decatur can enjoy their art. Festivities begin with an Artwalk, which gives guests a chance to see exhibits from shops and galleries throughout the area while enjoying complementary snacks and drinks. The Community Bandstand on the Square will welcome many musical acts for free live performances throughout the weekend. A kid’s area with art, music, clowns, inflatables and more will be hosted in the Decatur Recreation Center.
Concerts on the Square
Downtown Decatur, Saturdays in May
Head to the Square in downtown Decatur every Saturday evening in May for a free live concert. Music starts at 7 each Saturday, and the concerts will feature names like Banded, The Geeks, AFS Rhythm and Magno. This is the perfect free way to welcome summer to the Decatur area!
Blue Sky Concerts
Downtown Decatur, May 3 and May 17
If you prefer daytime music events, head to the town square on May 3 and May 17 at noon for the Blue Sky Concert series. Kevin Dunbar and Tim O’Donovan, both solo acoustic performers, will bring their work to the people of Decatur, and additional concerts may be scheduled later as the series gets underway. Bring a blanket and a picnic lunch and enjoy the music and the warm spring weather.
Decatur Lantern Parade
Downtown Decatur, May 12
At 9 p.m. on May 12 head to downtown Decatur for the annual Lantern Parade, a perfect way to welcome Arts Month. Families and residents throughout Decatur will come with homemade lanterns, lantern hats, illuminated parasols and more for an after-dark parade. The glowing lights will make the day magical for all who attend. The parade starts at Color Wheel Studio at 508 E. Howard Avenue.
