Looking for something to do in the spring now that the weather is warmer and the flowers are starting to bloom? Chapel Hill has much to offer! Here are some of our favorite upcoming activities not far from Carolina Square. We know you will enjoy spending some time in the community at some of these events.
Life of Galileo
You may not know that Galileo was a controversial figure, but Life of Galileo will shed some light on this. The PlayMakers Repertory Company will host the play, which is opening March 2. Prepare to be entertained and have your eyes opened to a little bit of history through Life of Galileo.
Second Friday Art Walk
Head to East and West Franklin Street on the second Friday of every month this spring for the community’s Art Walk. Local artists will have their wares on display, whether it is through art galleries, hands-on activities, or live music demonstrations. You can enjoy discounts at local businesses, pick up food from your favorite restaurant, and simply enjoy being out in the Chapel Hill community.
North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra
Are you in the mood for some classical music with a side of Jazz? Then head to the North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra concert on April 23. Special guest Brian Marsalis will join director James Ketch on this celebration of the orchestra’s 25th anniversary. The music of Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington will be highlighted in this concert, which starts at 7:30.
Every month this spring on the last Thursday of the month starting at 9:30, head to the Chapel Hill Pit for The Assist. This stand up improve comedy performance features Andrew Gleason and Justin McNeil, as well as five local comedians each night. The performance may only last an hour, but you will have enough laughs to fill the rest of your night.
Kid Koala at Current Art Space & Studio
DJ Kid Koala lets you become part of the music at the Current Art Space & Studio on May 2. In this live performance, audience members get their own vinyl and record player, giving them the chance to perform alongside the music played by DJ Kid Koala. The immersive experience transforms the entire room into a turntable orchestra, and you are part of the action.
Which of these spring events is the most appealing to you? Whether you’re looking for live music, comedy, or art, Chapel Hill is the place to be this spring. Make your plans now.
